Deputies from Our Party appealed to the Constitutional Court yesterday, demanding that the new citizenship law, adopted in the summer of 2025, be declared unconstitutional.
Deputy Alexander Berlinsky emphasized that due to the new law, more than 26,000 citizens are forced to undergo procedures to restore their citizenship (as stateless persons – "I."), despite having the appropriate certificates (birth certificates – "I.") confirming this status.
The deputy also noted that "the law was passed in record time – in just 21 days for the first and second readings."
According to him, the appeal to the Constitutional Court followed deputies from the ruling PAS party "refused to support" a bill by Our Party deputies that would allow citizenship to be confirmed based on a birth certificate, regardless of age (which is not provided for in the current law).
Previously, PAS registered a bill that would allow individuals born in Moldova after August 27, 1991, "who have no way to prove their citizenship," to bypass the citizenship recognition procedure until January 1, 2028.

"Our Party" is an extraparliamentary opposition political formation, positioning itself as a pro-Moldovan party advocating for a balanced foreign policy between East and West. We are convinced that for the Republic of Moldova today, the priority is not geopolitics, but solving the country's and its citizens' problems.
