The deputies of "Our Party" have registered a bill in the parliamentary secretariat in order to correct the "gap" in the new law on citizenship.
Alexandr Berlinschi, faction member, said this at a briefing on Tuesday. According to him, due to the fact that the new law was adopted in a hurry in July 2025, a "gap" has arisen, which consists in the fact that persons over the age of 18 who do not have an identity card cannot confirm the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova with a birth certificate (as it was before).
"In this case, a person must obtain citizenship according to the procedure provided for foreigners," the deputy said.
Therefore, the party's deputies registered the project in order to remedy the situation.
At the end of January, a contract serviceman committed suicide in one of the military units. There was information in the press that the tragedy could have occurred due to the new law, which prevented the serviceman from obtaining citizenship and continuing his service.
According to the current legislation, at birth all children receive citizenship of the Republic of Moldova if at least one of the parents is a citizen of Moldova. To do this, parents must apply for documents for the child free of charge so that he can receive an identity card. If this is not done before reaching the age of 18, then he must obtain citizenship in the general manner, as foreigners or stateless persons.

"Our Party" is an extraparliamentary opposition political formation, positioning itself as a pro-Moldovan party advocating for a balanced foreign policy between East and West. We are convinced that for the Republic of Moldova today, the priority is not geopolitics, but solving the country's and its citizens' problems.
