Parliament will discuss a legislative initiative by "Our Party" to extend the period of stay in Moldova for cars registered abroad. The bill was unanimously supported on Wednesday at a meeting of the parliamentary committee on national security, defense, and public order.
Presenting the bill, initiated by the "Our Party" faction, its leader, Renato Usatii, noted that the project envisages extending the period of use of cars in the country from six months to one year (365 days), following the practice used in many European Union countries.
"There are two serious problems." The first is the six-month period, which was previously applied in other countries, but they have long since abolished it. This applies to Belarus and the Russian Federation—they have adopted EU standards, while we still adhere to the old rules. The second problem is when our citizens travel from Lisbon or London to visit their parents for Easter and leave their car here. Only the person who brought it into the country with them can then export the car," Usatii noted.
According to him, in recent years, the Customs Service has strengthened controls and sanctions for overstaying, including internal orders and electronic monitoring mechanisms.
"This has led to numerous cases where Moldovan citizens were forced to either re-export their vehicles or undergo costly final customs clearance procedures, with no intention of keeping the vehicle in the country," Renato Usatii noted.
If the law is passed, citizens will be able to use their personal vehicles within the country for longer periods or for repeat visits without exceeding the current 180-day limit.

"Our Party" is an extraparliamentary opposition political formation, positioning itself as a pro-Moldovan party advocating for a balanced foreign policy between East and West. We are convinced that for the Republic of Moldova today, the priority is not geopolitics, but solving the country's and its citizens' problems.
