The Our Party faction in parliament is demanding an urgent revision of the natural gas tariff and its retroactive application, effective January 1, 2026. MP Constantin Cuiumju stated at a briefing on Wednesday that the population can no longer wait and pay inflated energy bills amid extremely low temperatures.

"January 2026 was one of the coldest months in recent years, leading to a sharp increase in natural gas consumption and, consequently, higher bills for households. For thousands of families, this burden is becoming critical," the MP stated.

He recalled that the last gas tariff change was at the end of 2024, when the price was raised.

"However, economic and social conditions have changed since then, and the authorities are obliged to respond promptly to reduce the pressure on consumers," Cuiumjusaid.

He demanded that Energocom immediately submit a request to the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) for a retroactive reduction in the gas tariff. Cuiumju cited the example of 2022, when a gas tariff increase approved at the end of January was applied retroactively, effective January 1.

"This precedent clearly demonstrates that retroactive application of tariffs is possible and entirely legal," he emphasized.

The deputy proposed temporarily suspending billing for January and, after the new, reduced tariff is approved, recalculating bills retroactively. He stated that these demands are not political in nature and are aimed solely at protecting citizens during this difficult time.
