Parliament has established a commission to investigate telephone, financial, and digital fraud and to assess the effectiveness of measures to combat these crimes. According to INFOTAG, this decision was made on Thursday in response to the fact that Moldovans lose hundreds of thousands, and sometimes millions, of lei daily as a result of various types of fraud.
The parliamentary faction of Our Party, which initiated the creation of the commission, noted that in 2025 alone, the damage caused to Moldovan citizens by online fraud exceeded 270 million lei, almost double the previous period. Criminal schemes are becoming increasingly sophisticated, employing new technologies, including artificial intelligence-based tools, to deceive victims.
"This phenomenon has long since gone beyond isolated incidents and represents a serious public health problem with social, economic, and even national security implications. The elderly, vulnerable groups, and citizens who lack the digital skills to recognize modern fraud are particularly vulnerable. For many victims, this loss means the loss of lifelong savings, and recovering these funds is often extremely difficult or impossible," stated MP Elena Gritco.
The 11-member commission will analyze the scale of this phenomenon, identify legislative gaps that allow criminals to operate with impunity, and assess how effectively government agencies are responding to victims' complaints. Within the next 30 days, the commission is expected to submit a final report to parliament with specific recommendations for protecting citizens and creating effective mechanisms for promptly blocking suspicious transactions.

"Our Party" is an extraparliamentary opposition political formation, positioning itself as a pro-Moldovan party advocating for a balanced foreign policy between East and West. We are convinced that for the Republic of Moldova today, the priority is not geopolitics, but solving the country's and its citizens' problems.
